Mariinsky Theater US tour

January 14-February 6, 2015 Russia's Mariinsky Theater is on a big foreign tour across the US with its opera, ballet and orchestra. The first performance took place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and was Rodion Shchedrin's opera "The Enchanted Wanderer" by Nikolay Leskov (production by Aleksey Stepanyuk).

Ballet performances started on January 15 with the world famous "Swan Lake" that American audience will enjoy five times within one tour. Three times New York will see the popular Prokofiev's ballet "Cinderella" choreographed by Alexey Ratmansky featuring Diana Vishneva as Cinderella and Konstantin Zverev as Prince.

Special program consisting of 4 one-act ballets will be brought to Washington. Those are: Hodson's Le sacre du printemps inspired by Nijinsky, Fokine's Le Spectre de la Rose and The Swan, and Petipa's Paquita Gran Pas.

Starting January 24 symphonic orchestra conducted by maestro Valery Gergiev will join the company. Concerts have a broad geography including nine American cities such as New York, Miami, Philadelphia, etc. Per tradition pieces of Russian composers will prevail. Pianists Denis Matsuev, Behzod Abduraimov and conductor Ignat Solzhenitsyn are among participants.
