Information of the Russian Border Service
According to the Russian Border Service’s latest legal comments this Consular Section would like to inform that foreign nationals are allowed to cross the Russian border only on a valid national passport and a valid Russian visa therein. No other option is provided by the current Russian legislation.
A foreign national is denied to enter the territory of the Russian Federation with a valid Russian visa stamped in his/her invalid (annulled, expired, etc.) national passport.
Thus, before taking a trip to the Russian Federation a foreign national must contact any Russian consular post for transferring the valid Russian visa from his/her invalid national passport to a valid one.
