We managed to secure a consular meeting with Maria Butina in DC jail
In our efforts we managed to secure a consular meeting with Maria Butina in DC jail. Despite the stress and psychological pressure, the Russian citizen suffered during her arrest, she feels well and in good health.
Maria is having a hard time adapting to prison conditions, as any normal person would. Nevertheless, she is in high spirits, confident in her innocence and stands ready to prove that fact in court.
She was certainly happy to see our diplomats and feel moral support. We told Maria that her case caused a public outcry in Russia and people send her words of solidarity. She asked to tell her parents not to worry.
We will continue to provide Maria Butina with consular and any necessary assistance.
We have officially asked the U.S. Authorities to provide explanations of the reasons for arresting our citizen.
