Ambassador Antonov and Fairbanks Mayor Jim Matherly paid tribute to Soviet and American ALSIB pilots. Memorial candles were lit to mark the Day of Memory and Sorrow commemorating start of 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.
Ambassador Anatoly Antonov visited the Fairbanks Mayor's Office and discussed with Mayor Jim Matherly, the possibilities of enhancing cooperation between the twin cities. The Ambassador thanked the mayor’s office for caring for the Lend-Lease monument erected in Fairbanks in 2006. The topics of the 75th anniversary of our common Victory over Nazism in 2020, the importance of preserving the memory of our cooperation during the Second World War, transferring this knowledge to younger generations were discussed.
